Palafox’s Treasure
Urban Escape in Zaragoza
In the darkest days of our homeland, during the Spanish War of Independence, the courageous General José de Palafox y Melzi, determined not to let the invading French take what was ours, concealed a treasure in some remote corner of our city.
Legends tell that the general left hidden clues in different places throughout the city, with the purpose that the most intrepid and brave adventurers could follow his trail and find the coveted treasure. But as time passed, the exact location of Palafox’s treasure was shrouded in mystery. Until one day, during an exhaustive investigation in the University library, several hidden notes were discovered in an old book authored by General Palafox, “Memories and Documents for the History of the War in Spain.”
These notes were new clues, an invaluable legacy that several historians attribute to Palafox’s treasure. And so, the lost treasure of the great general remains a challenge for brave adventurers who, with the spirit of their homeland burning in their hearts, embark on the quest for the wealth that, according to legend, is hidden somewhere in our beloved city.
